Northridge baseball team nips Lakeland

Northridge edged Lakeland, 11-10 in eight innings in varsity baseball action Wednesday night.

The Lakers tied the game at 10-all on a two-run homer by Morgan Moore in the bottom of the seventh inning. The Raiders then pushed across the go-ahead run in the top of the eighth and called on ace pitcher Andy Ross to hold the lead. Ross responded by retiring three of the four batters he faced, two by strikeout.

Matt Miller starred at the plate for Northridge, going 3-5 with a home run and four RBI. Steven Frye singled and drove in three runs.

Moore also had a single and totaled three RBI. Kyle Casper ripped a pair of doubles and plated three runs. Dalton Schmidt poked a double and two singles, while both Sammy Garcia and William Kelly had two singles and scored twice.

Casper, who pitched the eighth inning, took the loss for the Lakers. Hunter Sams started on the mound and worked the first five frames. Kelly and Jacob Morris also took turns on the bump for Lakeland. The quartet combined to strikeout eight.
