It has gone up fast.
Those traveling SR 9 between Howe and LaGrange could only be amazed at how quickly the new Fillmore Equipment building has gone up.
And now they are moving in, with a grand opening celebration set for this Saturday, Jan. 18. The event runs from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m., with a ribbon cutting at 9 a.m. LaGrange County Commissioners will be on hand at 10:30 a.m. to sign an order for the first piece of new equipment to be purchased at the new location.
Other activities include breakfast from 8-10:30 a.m., with lunch until 1 p.m. The John Deere Day Film will be shown at 9:30 and 11 a.m.
Tours of the new building will be given throughout the day, along with a new equipment preview.
Frank Sherman said the move to the building has been hectic, but is coming along and they expect to have everything moved over by Friday evening. Construction started the first of July and has been on schedule to allow them to move in this week.
The new spot marks the third location for the equipment dealer, which was started in 1941 by Harry Sherman on the east side of the square in Howe. Sherman Farm Equipment moved to the location on SR 120 west of SR 9 in 1973.
The company was bought in 2004 and then purchased by Fillmore Equipment in 2009.
Sherman noted that the new location gives them a larger shop and setup area, as well as more space for parts and inside storage. The location also gives customers two ways to access the dealer, from SR 9 or off of CR 300N.
