It may be cold and snowy now, but come springtime a new walking trail will be available for those looking to get out and enjoy one of LaGrange County’s parks.
Work began earlier this fall on a new trail at Delt Church County Park, located on CR 200W northeast of Wolcottville, with grading and laying down a limestone base.
The 1.75-mile trail will loop around the park, along the Little Elkhart River and through the woods, even crossing a bridge along the way. The bridge is expected to be installed in mid-December.
With freezing temperatures being the norm for the foreseeable future, work will halt until spring, when the top coat of finely crushed limestone will be installed. The trail will be ADA compliant and will include sitting places along the loop.
The parks department had installed a similar trail at Pine Knob County Park and the trail saw a lot of use from hikers along with the archers who frequent the park. The department put the idea of trails on their future plans and began work to find funding for the new trail. The department received a Recreational Trails Project Grant for $128,585 from the Department of Transportation to fund the project.
