NECC Golf Championship results

Fairfield took full advantage of gorgeous playing conditions Saturday at the Noble Hawk Golf Links in Kendallville to shoot a team score of 304 and easily capture the 2012 NECC boys golf tournament championship.

Zach Hochstedler led the Falcon charge with a one-under par 70, which also garnered him medalist honors by a stroke over Austin Corcimiglia of Fremont and by two over Angola’s Justin Lomont. Hochstedler birdied the first and third holes en route to a one-under 34 on the front nine. He then fired a even-par 36 on the back.

Corcimiglia got off to an even hotter start, as he birdied four of the first five holes to go out in four-under 32. The Eagle ace cooled off a bit on the back, carding a 39.

Lakeland offered the stiffest challenge to Fairfield for the team trophy, finishing second with a score of 319. Cody Richardson’s steady round of 75 led the Lakers and placed him sixth on the medalist list.

Laker teammate Spencer Mortola endured a more mercurial tour of the Noble Hawk layout. Mortola collected six birdies on the day, only to have them offset by three double bogeys. In the end, Mortola authored a 76, tying him for seventh place individually.

Jordan Aldrich and Isaac Kilgore carded rounds of 83 and 85, respectively to complete the Lakeland scoring lineup. Aldrich joined Richardson and Mortola on the All-NECC team for his efforts, while Kilgore had to settle for a spot on the honorable mention list.

Denis Weirich shot a 76 to lead Westview in the tournament and gain all-conference recognition. The Warriors wound up seventh on the team standings with a score of 351.

Dakota Lambert topped the Prairie Heights ledger with an 84, placing him in the honorable mention group. The Panthers were 10th as a team with a score of 382.
