Westview tied Angola for second-place honors in the 2014 NECC girls tennis tournament which concluded Saturday afternoon at Lakeland.
Runner-up finishes by No. 2 singles player Miranda Kresse and the doubles duos of Katelyn Miller-Chanda Strong and Tessa Zimmerly-Riley Hochstetler helped the Lady Warriors score 46 points in the tournament, the same number as Angola. Fairfield, which took firsts in four of the five divisions, cruised to the team title with a score of 60 points.
Kresse reached the finals of the No. 2 singles group with straight set wins over Anna Buttgen of West Noble and Anna Fuller of Angola. Kresse then fell to Fairfield’s Lauren Streit, 6-1, 6-0 in the finals.
Miller and Strong also trimmed their opening two foes in the No. 1 doubles bracket – Maggie Franke-Jessica Valentine of Prairie Heights and Tricia VanGessell-Cassidy Klemp of Central Noble -- in the minimum two sets. The Fairfield tandem of Brooke Hochstedler and Leah Wimmer handled the Westview duo by a count of 6-4, 6-2 in the title tilt.
After a three-set triumph over West Noble’s Vanesa Ratliff and Bailey Kruger in the first round of the No. 2 doubles flight, the Lady Warrior unit of Zimmerly and Hochstetler scored a two-set romp over Nikki Eslinger and Maggie Kitt of Churubusco. The Westview combo then ran into Abby and Becca Buchs in the finale and suffered a 6-1, 6-1 defeat at the hands of the Angola pair.
The other two Westview singles entries placed third in their division. Charlotte Jones topped Emily Maneke of Central Noble, 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 in the third-place match at No. 1 singles. Savannah Rang forged a 6-1, 6-4 win over Fremont’s Jordan Lovett in the No. 3 singles consolation finale.
With their results, Jones, Kresse, Miller and Strong all earned a spot on the All-NECC squad.
