NECC cross country meet results

Westview finished second in the annual NECC boys cross country meet held this past Saturday at Prairie Heights.

The Warriors came in with a score of 65 points, 22 behind meet champion West Noble (43). The host Panthers took third with 136.

Richmond Stoltzfus paced the Westview squad with a fourth-place effort of 16:57. Other Warriors finishing in the top 15 and gaining All-NECC honors were Daniel Flores (ninth in 17:16), Derek Miller (11th in 17:25) and Matthew Yoder (14th in 17:41).

Mason Jones (28th in 1850) completed the Westview scoring order. Also competing for the Warriors were Abe Jones (30th in 18:54) and Brock Miller (32nd in 19:05).

Mitch Perkins’ third-place run of 16:56 led the Prairie Heights cause. Panther teammate Josh Perkins also gained All-NECC status with an eighth-place result of 17:16, while Evan Gunthorp copped a spot on the honorable mention list by placing 24th in 18:30.

Rounding out the Prairie Heights lineup were Tanner Perkins (37th in 19:13), Matthew Dyer (80th in 21:37), Joel Smith (90th in 24:46) and Kendall Perkins (91st 24:48).

Lakeland’s Kyle Burchett just missed making the all-conference team, as he finished 16th overall in 17:46. Joining Burchett on the honorable mention team with a 21st-place time of 18:11 was Laker teammate Kaleb Wadsworth.

Garrett Chrisman (19:07) placed 34th for Lakeland, which wound up sixth in the team standings with 154 points. Other Laker finishers included Kent Eagleson (36th in 19:10), Cameron Fitzgerald (51st in 19:53), Brennen Weimer (52nd in 20:00), Josh Grogg (62nd in 20:28) and Andrew Carter (83rd in 21:43).

Brandon Arnold of West Noble ran away with the medalist honors in the race, winning in a time of 16:06. Charger teammate Salvador Campos placed second in 16:41.

Aspen Dirr of Prairie Heights sped to a runner-up finish in the NECC girls cross country meet held on her home course Saturday morning.

Dirr completed the hilly layout in a time of 19:21, 22 seconds ahead of third-place finisher Josey Korte of Angola. Riley Welch of Fremont won the girls race in a clocking of 18:50.

Three other LaGrange County girls earned All-NECC honors with top-15 finishes Saturday. Leading the pack was Kaitlyn Warren of Westview, who placed 10th overall in 21:19.

Taking 12th overall in a mark of 21:31 was Warren’s Lady Warrior teammate Lydia Rang. Lakeland leader Massie Maskow wound up 13th in 21:35.

Two more Lady Lakers finished in the top 25 to gain honorable mention status. They were Michaella Burchett (19th in 21:55) and Ashlyn Maskow (23rd in 22:21).

Christie Scott of Prairie Heights finished one spot out of the honorable mention group, taking 26th place in 22:40.

West Noble won the girls team championship with a score of 69 points. Angola was second with 87 and Fairfield third with 112.
