Led by individual medalist John Stack, Fairfield won the 2014 NECC boys golf tournament title this past Saturday at Noble Hawk Golf Links in Kendallville.
The Falcons totaled 324 team strokes, six less than runner-up Churubusco. Angola was third with a score of 337.
Stack toured the front-nine at Noble Hawk in 37 shots and played the inward nine holes in 36 strokes. Kaleb Smith of Central Noble was second on the medalist list with a 74, while Landen Brow of Eastside took third with a 75.
Nick Bennett of Prairie Heights paced LaGrange County’s golfers in the tournament with an 80. Finishing one shot behind Bennett with an 81 was Lakeland’s Isaac Kilgore. Panther Cole Lorntz carded an 83. All three earned spots on the All-NECC team with their efforts.
Two Lakers and another Panther gained All-NECC honorable mention status with their rounds. Lakeland teammates Brad Pearson and Lukas Long both shot 87 to tie for 22nd position. Cody Bachelor of Prairie Heights tied for 24th with an 88.
