Mortola leads Laker golfers

Lakeland boys golf ace Spencer Mortola got his 2013 season off to a great start Tuesday afternoon in Goshen.

The senior fired a three-under par 33 on the Maplecrest Country Club course to grab medalist honors by four shots over Alex Hartsough (37) of Goshen. Carding rounds of 38 were Frank Iavagnilio and Nick Foy of Elkhart Memorial.

Mortola’s efforts helped the Lakers win two of three team decisions in the “four-way” match. Lakeland defeated Goshen (165-173) and West Noble (165-212), but lost to Memorial (156-165).
