Michael E. Schiltz, 61, Howe, died Tuesday, September 24, 2013 at his residence.
He was born November 29, 1951, in Elkhart, Ind., to Lawrence E. and Mary E. (Culp) Schiltz.
He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving from January 29, 1971 to October 2, 1972 and received the National Defense Service Medal and the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal. He was a pattern maker at Leer Corporation in Elkhart, Ind., and a member of American Legion Post 215 in LaGrange.
He was married April 28, 2004 in Scott United Methodist Church, to Julie A. Long. She survives.
Also surviving are his mother, Mary Weaver, Sarasota, Fla.; two sons, Mitchell Moser, Mendon, Mich., and Jason Long, Sturgis, Mich.; five daughters, Kory Vance, Hometown, Ill., Melinda Lee, Mims, Fla., Jenny Weber, Elkhart, Ind., Jamie Larkin, Sturgis, Mich., and Jessica Long, Sturgis, Mich.; 14 grandchildren; one sister, Lori Schiltz, Elkhart, Ind.; five brothers, Daniel J. Schiltz, Shipshewana, Shawn Schiltz, Elkhart, Ind., Cody Elliot, Elkhart, Ind., Mike Weaver, Shipshewana, and Stefan Weaver, Shipshewana.
Visitation is 1-3 p.m. Tuesday, October 1, at Scott United Methodist Church.
Memorial service will be 3 p.m. Tuesday, October 1, at Scott United Methodist Church with Pastor Tammy Lugar officiating. Military rites will be performed by American Legion Post 215.
