The flowers are out on the porch of the Davis Mercantile. It surely must be spring, and time for MayFest 2013. The Shipshewana Retail Merchants Association invites everyone to come join the fun.
Friday, May 3rd begins with entertainment and food at the huge tent on Morton Street. The free entertainment will begin with a magic show and will conclude the day with music by local artists, Heartstrings Bluegrass at 6 p.m. and Branded Bluegrass at 7 p.m. All the while local food vendors will fill the air with appetizing aromas.
Friday evening also features a local talent contest at the Shipshewana-Scott Elementary School. Tickets for the talent contest are available at E&S Sales, Forks County Line Store and Yoder’s Shipshewana Hardware.
Saturday morning begins with a 3 on 3 basketball tournament, a pancake breakfast, and then the parade. This year, the parade is seeking all equestrian units. Bring a horse carriage, rig, wagon or buggy, and of course, the beautiful horses. This is what makes the MayFest parade and Shipshewana community unique. Of course there will be bands, floats and all the other entries that make a parade so much fun.
After the parade, enjoy face painting, buggy races, family games, radio control NASCAR races, a corn hole tournament, a garden tractor pull and an amateur auctioneer contest. Watch for a juggler roaming the streets.
The family entertainment in the big tent on Morton Street will feature puppets, art awards, a Tae Kwan Do demonstration and cloggers. Saturday’s entertainment concludes with music by yodeler Aaron Stutzman, Livin’ Forgiven, and Lena Mullet with Amos Raber.
Celebrate spring with a fun-packed weekend in Shipshewana.
