Maurice K. Woodworth, 84, Howe, died Thursday, June 26, 2014 at Life Care Center of LaGrange.
He was born July 31, 1929, in LaGrange, to James and Lettie (Warner) Woodworth.
Living all his life in LaGrange County, he was a 1947 graduate of Lima High School and a farmer. He was a Korean War veteran, serving stateside in the U.S. Army. From 1970-1983 he and his wife volunteered their time at the American Indian Mission and Boarding School in Peoria, Ariz., where he worked in the maintenance department and he coached athletics. This mission work was through World Gospel Missions in Marion, Ind. He attended the First Baptist Church in Sturgis, Mich., and was a past member of the American Dairyman’s Association. He also sang in the church choir.
He was married in May 1954 at Lima United Methodist Church in Howe to Isabel Anderson. She preceded him in death on November 4, 1983.
Surviving are one daughter, Cherie (Tim) Borg, Wolcottville; one son, Glen (Kristen) Woodworth, Zionsville, Ind.; two grandsons, Austin Borg and Ethan Woodworth; three granddaughters, Ciara Borg, Laynie Borg and Gabrielle Woodworth; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters, Mildred Sisson, Helen Fetch, Audra Czajkowski and June Moser, and three brothers, Howard Woodworth, Elmer Woodworth and Bob Woodworth.
Visitation is 2-6 p.m. Friday, July 4, at the Rosenberg Chapel of Hackman Family Funeral Homes in Sturgis, Mich.
Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Saturday, July 5, at First Baptist Church in Sturgis, Mich.
Burial with full military honors by Captain John J. Kelley Post #1355 VFW Honor Guard and the U.S. Army Honor Guard will be in Sidener Cemetery, rural Howe.
