Creating outdoor living spaces is one of the topics that will be featured at the 7th Annual Spring Gardening Symposium presented by Purdue Master Gardeners of LaGrange County from 8 a.m. until 3:45 p.m. on Saturday, March 23, in the community building on the LaGrange County 4-H Fairgrounds.
The theme for this year’s symposium is “DIY Gardening.”
Dave Miller will present “Creating Outdoor Living Spaces with Hardscapes.” Dave and his brother Maynard own and operate a landscape company that specializes in installation of hardscapes from paver walkways, patios, and retaining walls to outdoor kitchens and fireplaces.
Based in Middlebury, their five crews do lawn and landscape installations in addition to their specialty. Dave was born and raised in LaGrange County, where he attended Westview High School. He is a member of Elkhart County Builders Association, Middlebury Chamber of Commerce, and Planet (Professional Landcare Network).
In addition to Miller’s presentation, the day’s programs include “Dishing about Dandelions and Other Wild Delights,” “Determining the Right Water Garden for You,” and three mini-workshops – “Rain Barrels,” “Preserving Nature’s Bounty,” and “Hanging Baskets.”
Area vendors will be on hand with a variety of garden-related products and services, and a silent auction will feature many items for bid. Door prizes will be awarded throughout the day.
The registration fee includes morning refreshments, lunch, and make-and-take supplies. Registration deadline is March 8. Program flyers including reservation forms are available via e-mail by request to mshamp@ embarqmail.com, or at Purdue Extension, County Office Building, 114 W. Michigan Street, LaGrange, IN 46761, 260-499-6334.
