Marvin Willis Phares, 90, Wolcottville, died Friday, May 25, 2012 at Parkview LaGrange Hospital.
He was born October 4, 1921, in Ligonier, Ind., to Cecil and Frances (Ozier) Phares.
He was a 1939 graduate of Wawaka High School and a WWII veteran, serving in the U.S. Navy on LST 753. He was a supporter of the 4-H program in Elkhart Township and the Noble County 4-H Fair and a member of Cosperville Baptist Church.
He was married February 24, 1949 to Laveta Bitner. She preceded him in death in April 2012.
Surviving are two sons, Lyle (Pennie) Phares, Ligonier, Ind., and Kent (Barb) Phares, Celina, Ohio; three daughters, Susan (Ken) Brumbaugh, Churubusco/Albion, Carol Phares, Middlebury, and Deborah (Mark) Grossman, Wolcottville; 19 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and one great great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Marvene Phares.
Visitation is 2-8 p.m. Thursday, May 31, at Stone’s Hill Community Church in Ligonier, Ind.
Services will be 10 a.m. Friday, June 1, at Stone’s Hill Community Church in Ligonier, Ind., with Pastor Jim Barnes and Pastor Nathan Reynolds officiating.
Burial will be in Sparta Cemetery, Kimmell, Ind.
