Margaret Bowen

Margaret Boyd Bowen, age 87, passed away on August 1, 2015 at the Sunrise Assisted Living on Webb Gin House Rd., Lawrenceville, Georgia after a long illness due to lung cancer.

She was a former resident of Snellville, Georgia and was preceded in death by her husband Robert L. Bowen, Sr.

She was born in LaGrange County, Indiana on February 2, 1928 to the late Mary Boerner Boyd and Howard L. Boyd. Margaret was the consummate homemaker. She could balance a budget. She could sew and make almost anything. Everyone marveled at the way she decorated her home with various homemade crafts. However, she was probably known best for her cooking and baking skills. On birthdays, she would make specially designed cakes for members of her family. And on holidays, she would make boxes of candies and cookies and distribute them to friends and relatives. The family fondly remembers one Thanksgiving dinner where “Grandma” made 11 individual different pies and cakes for the desserts.

She is survived by her sons Robert L. “Bob” Bowen, Jr.  of Snellville and Dale A. Bowen and wife Margie of Atlanta, GA.; grandchildren Josh Bowen and wife Tiffany, Britt Bowen and wife Melissa, Lauren Bowen Train and husband Comer III, Kristin Bowen Ferro and husband Benito; and great-grandchildren, Eli and Porter Bowen, Avery and Charlie Bowen, and Anne Margaret, Comer IV, and Mills Bowen Train. Additional survivors include her younger brother, Howard R. “Pete” Boyd, of Howe, Indiana along with numerous nieces and nephews.

The Snellville Chapel of Tom Wages Funeral Services has handled the arrangements for cremation. Per Margaret’s request, there will be no memorial service.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in her memory may be made to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, 1687 Tullie Circle, Atlanta, GA 30329.
