Main Street TIF discussed for Topeka

The Topeka Town Council wants to look at making part of Main Street a TIF (Tax Incremental Funding) District as a way to get funds that the town could then use to tackle infrastructure issues in that area.

If created, the TIF district would capture some of the increases in property taxes collected, which would then go back to the town.

It was noted that in a recent case involving the unsafe structure located at the corner of Main and Lake streets, the town had no funding available to take action with.
