A mailbox on CR 205E, north of CR 400N, was blown up Saturday morning, prompting area officials to search for a white Chevy Tahoe or GMC Yukon-type vehicle.
According to the LaGrange County Sheriff’s Department, a report of a mailbox being blown up was received shortly before 2 a.m. at that location.
When deputies arrived, they found that a mailbox had been destroyed by some type of explosive device. After a search of the area, deputies found the remains of an explosive device, as well as foot tracks in the snow leading from the mailbox to a neighboring mailbox.
The Indiana State Police Explosive Ordinance Disposal Unit (EOD) was contacted to respond to the area to check the other mailbox for an explosive device. Officers from the EOD checked the neighboring mailbox, and found it was clear.
The homeowner told officers that they had seen a white, mid-90’s model Chevy Tahoe or GMC Yukon vehicle earlier.
Officers continue to investigate the incident. Anyone with information is asked to contact the sheriff’s department at 463-7491.
