Lydia Borntrager

Lydia A. Borntrager, 93, Goshen, Ind., formerly of Middlebury, died Friday, March 13, 2015 at the Maples at Waterford Crossing in Goshen, Ind.

    She was born March 7, 1922, in Shipshewana, to Andrew and Anna (Yoder) Schrock.

    She was a member of Pleasant Grove Mennonite Church, served with women's visitation at Faith Mission in Elkhart, volunteered with Gospel Echoes, served at Civilian Public Services for several years, and was a member of the auxiliary board at Oaklawn Psychiatric Center.

    She was married October 7, 1943, in Shipshewana, to Crist T. Borntrager. He preceded her in death on September 19, 2008.

    Surviving are three daughters, Esther (Leroy) Cross, Naomi Chapman, and Annetta (Tom) Good, all of Goshen, Ind.; three sons, Ivan (Jane) Borntrager, Goshen, Ind., Marvin (Linda) Borntrager, Clermont, Fla., and Norman (Julie) Borntrager, Middlebury; 15 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; and six stepgreat-grandchildren.

    She was preceded in death by her parents, one grandson, Philip Good, five brothers, Sam, Andrew, William, Edward and David Schrock, three sisters, Polly Schrock, Amanda Yoder and Sarah Bontrager, and a son-in-law, Joseph Chapman.

    Celebration of Life was held Monday, March 16, at Pleasant Grove Conservative Mennonite Church with Bishop Randall Riegsecker and the Pleasant Grove Ministry Team officiating.

    Burial is in Pleasant Grove Cemetery, Goshen, Ind.

    Memorials may be directed to the Pleasant Grove Sewing Circle or Gospel Echoes Prison Ministry.
