Loud muffler leads to OWI arrest

A loud muffler led to the arrest of a Sturgis, Mich., man for OWI April 15.

    According to the report from the LaGrange County Sheriff’s Department, a deputy made a traffic stop north of Howe on SR 9 on a 2000 Dodge Durango for a loud muffler.

    During investigation officers detected the odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from the driver, identified as Johnny Denny Jr., 21, of Sturgis, Mich. Denny Jr. was given three field sobriety tests, which he allegedly failed, and consented to a certified chemical breath test, which revealed a BAC of 0.138 percent. The legal limit in Indiana is 0.08 percent.

    Denny Jr. was arrested for misdemeanor operating a vehicle while intoxicated, endangering another person, and taken to the LaGrange County Jail.
