Loud muffler gets three arrested on drug charges

 

On Feb. 28, the LaGrange County Sheriff’s Department received a complaint about a suspicious vehicle with a loud exhaust in the area of CR 165E and CR 770S, near Witmer Lake.

According to the police report, deputies stopped a black 1996 Pontiac Grand Am for a loud exhaust violation, identifying the driver as Ronnie Sutton, 38, of South Milford. Sutton was found to be driving after having his driver’s license suspended for life. Sutton also had an outstanding warrant out of Steuben County for illegal purchase of ephedrine.

Officers reported that Sutton was found to be in possession of paraphernalia associated with the use of methamphetamine as well as a small amount of a substance that officers believed to be methamphetamine.

The passenger and owner of the vehicle, Ashley Mason, 26, of Stroh, was found to be in possession of a small amount of suspected marijuana, as well as paraphernalia associated with the use of marijuana. Mason also had a suspended driver’s license.

During the course of the investigation, officers received information that the two suspects were traveling to a location that was suspected of being involved in illegal drug activity.

Officers went to a residence on CR 775S in Wolcottville to investigate the information and made contact with the occupants of the residence.

At the residence, deputies made contact with Shayla Schaeffer, 19, of LaGrange. Officers reportedly found she was in possession of paraphernalia associated with the use of marijuana and meth, as well as a small amount of a substance officers believed to be meth.

Sutton was taken to the LaGrange County Jail on preliminary charges of Driving During Life Suspension, a Class C Felony, Possession of Methamphetamine, a Class D Felony, Possession of Paraphernalia, a Class A Misdemeanor; and Visiting a Common Nuisance, a Class B Misdemeanor.

Mason was booked on preliminary charges of Maintaining a Common Nuisance, a Class D Felony, Possession of Marijuana, a Class A Misdemeanor, and Possession of Marijuana, a Class A Misdemeanor.

Shayla Schaeffer was arrested on preliminary charges of Possession of Methamphetamine, a Class D Felony, and Possession of Paraphernalia, a Class A Misdemeanor.
