Carolyn Wood Visits 3 Weeks In England – Carolyn Wood of LaGrange route 3 arrived home August 17 from a three weeks visit in England. She flew from Detroit, Mich., to London July 27 to visit a girl friend and her family.

    The three weeks were spent sightseeing in London, Windsor and the Isle of Wight. Points of interest seen were Buckingham Palace, Westminster Abbey, Parliament, Big Ben, Piccadilly Circus, Trafalgar Square, Tower of London and London Bridge. The last was spend at Windsor Castle and viewing Piccadilly by night.

    Miss Wood will be a junior at Lakeland High School in September. She is employed by the W. R. Thomas Store in LaGrange.


Return From Trip – Mr. and Mrs. Noah Gingerich and Abner Stutzman accompanied by Mr. and Mrs. Dan Fisher of Ohio have returned from a motor trip which took them as far as Fairbanks, Alaska. They went through the Black Hills, the Badlands, Yellowstone Park, Glacier National Park, parts of Canada, and Washington and Oregon. While in Alaska they visited various places and took a boat trip which took two days and nights. They report that at 9:30 in the evening it was not yet sundown.


Susan Anderson Will Study In Germany – Susan Anderson of Orland sailed from New York, August 19 on the M.S. Aurelia to study at the University of Hamburg. She is one of 19 students selected from Purdue University to participate in the Junior-Year-Abroad program. Credits received abroad will apply toward her graduation from Purdue University.

    This program is a new overseas study program sponsored jointly by Purdue and Indiana Universities at the University of Hamburg, the University of Strasbourg and the University of Madrid.

    The M.S. Aurelia, an all-student ship, will dock at LeHarve, France tomorrow. From there the students and their director will visit Paris. Wednesday they leave by train for southern Germany to spend two months at a Goethe Institute for intensive language study. Classes start November 1 at the University of Hamburg.

    Susan is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ezra Anderson of Orland, and a 1963 graduate of Brighton School.

Carriage for PGA Golf Event –Troyer Carriage Company of Shipshewana has built a carriage which will be featured at the Bob Hope-Frank Sinatra Golf Classic in Palm Springs. The tournament is an event of the Professional Golfer Association. Bob Schrock, 1990 Miss Limberlost Shelli Yoder, and George Shayler were busy in LaGrange Wednesday evening with photographers in front of the 1886 Inn. The photo session was for a promotion brochure being prepared for the Troyer Carriage Company.


Appreciation Day contest winners listed – The annual Wolcottville Appreciation Days were held August 10 and 11, sponsored by the Wolcottville Business Association. A number of contest were held and the winners were announced in the following events:

    Parade: Church – First Baptist Church of Wolcottville, American Baptist Youth; Fire Department – Johnson Township; Business – Wibles; Kiddy Entry – Amanda Pierce; Motorized – Kiddy King and Queen float.

    Fire Men’s Waterball: 1st – South Milford; 2nd – Angola Team #1; 3rd – Wolcottville Team #2.

    Tug of War: Women – 1st D. Glass, S. Rofkahr, and J. King; 1000 lbs. and under – Sam Barkman, David Smucker and David Gingerich; Heavy Weight – Terry Stidham, Sam Riser and Jimmy Ritchie.

    Softball Tourney: 1st – Turkey Lake Tavern; 2nd – Twin Six Café; 3rd – Throw Togethers.
