County commissioners moved to accept the extension of a Local Juvenile Detention Agreement at Tuesday morning’s meeting. The original agreement entered into earlier this summer was for only a couple of months and expired at the end of June.
The $92,000 plus additional funding extends the total grant funding to $113,290 and extends the program until June 30, 2015.
A part of the stipulations of the grant includes a coordinator salary of $50,000. David Judkins has been retained by Judge Scott VanDerbeck of the LaGrange Circuit Court to fill the position. The purpose of the grant is to keep juvenile offenders in the community rather than send them to a state department of corrections.
Commissioners directed County Attorney Kurt Bachman to draft a contract for the extension of an agreement with the Ark Animal Sanctuary. The extension, which will be offered to Ark, will be for three years and expires December 31, 2017.
