The Fox Run Equestrian Team, coached by Jean Martin of Shipshewana, competed in their first Interscholastic Equestrian Association (IEA) meet at Culver Academies Saturday and Sunday.
Fox Run earned enough points at the Culver Academies meet to qualify for regionals. They compete again this Sunday at Albion College in Michigan.
IEA is a national association that provides riders with the opportunity to improve the quality of their competition. Riders compete on horses that are provided by the host facility, rather than taking their own. Although the rider and horse have a short opportunity at orientation in over the fences classes, the horse is new to the rider. Scores are based upon horsemanship and equitation, not the horse.
The competition involves six classes jumping over fences and numerous flat equitation classes.
Through IEA, students have the opportunity to earn scholarships toward their college education through awards in competitions and sportsmanship activities.
