New genealogists workshop...

    Maybe you’ve heard about the great genealogy resources available on the internet, but you’re just not comfortable using a computer. If so, the LaGrange County Public Library has a workshop just for you.

In this hands-on workshop you’ll learn how to use the internet, then how to use some fabulous internet genealogy resources.

No previous experience is necessary.

The workshop takes place on Thursday, Feb. 21, and the schedule includes:

10:30 a.m.-Noon: Reference Librarian Amanda Wisler will teach an internet class for absolute beginners. Even if you’ve never used a computer before, you’ll be surfing the net by the end of this class.

Noon-2:30 p.m.: Lunch. Everyone can have lunch on their own and then reconvene for the afternoon class.

1-2:30 p.m.: LaGrange County Genealogical Society President Dalonda Young will show how to apply your new internet skills to genealogy research.

Genealogy assistance...

Volunteers from the LaGrange County Genealogical Society are available in the library’s genealogy department on the first Wednesday of each month to help the public with family history questions and challenges.

This month, help will be available from 9:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 6.

Second Saturday Book Club...

The Second Saturday Book Club will meet at 11 a.m.on Saturday, Feb. 9. This month’s book being discussed is The Forgotten Garden by Kate Morton.

The book club is open to anyone age 16 and older.

iPad discussion group...

The next meeting of the iPad discussion group will be from 10-11 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 11. Bring your iPad and share tips, tricks, and favorite apps.

The group meets on the second Monday of each month and walk-ins are always welcome. 

 

Holiday closing...

    The LaGrange County Public Library and all branches will be closed on Monday, Feb. 18 for Presidents Day.

Valentines for Riley’s...

The library is still collecting valentines for children at Riley Children’s Hospital. The library provides the valentines and kids can either make one while at the library or take it home to color and return it to the library.

Completed valentines must be turned in to the library by Thursday, Feb. 7, so they will arrive at Riley’s in time for Valentine’s Day on Feb. 14.

Make a valentine...

Children can make a valentine for someone special when visiting the library Feb. 5-9 and 12-14. Everything needed to create that perfect card will be provided. 

Professor Snoozy and friends...

 In February, visit with Professor Snoozy and friends during story timeat 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Tuesdays at the LaGrange County Public Library and discover how friends help each other, how to show friends you care, and the value of friendship.

The featured books for February include: Substitute Groundhog on February 5,Who Will Be My Valentine This Year? on Feb. 12, Wanted: Best Friend on Feb. 19, and Friendship on Feb. 26.   

Movie of the month...

Come in out of the cold and watch a movie that’ll warm your heart. The movie for February is “The Odd Life of Timothy Green”at 6 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 8.

The library will provide the popcorn and attendees can bring something to drink in a covered container.

Family Movie Night...

“Hotel Transylvania”will be shown at 6 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 8, at the Topeka Branch Library.

Prickly’s Story Time...

Join Prickly and Topeka Librarian Laurel Nelson for stories, crafts, and fun at 10 a.m. on Wednesdays at the Topeka Branch Library.
