Genealogy assistance...

Beginning Aug. 1, volunteers from the LaGrange County Genealogical Society will be available in the Genealogy Department on the first Wednesday of each month from 9:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. to help the public with family history questions and challenges.

Visiting author...

Come and meet bestselling author Wanda Brunstetter, the award-winning romance novelist who has led millions of readers to lose their heart in the Amish life. She will be at the LaGrange County Public Library from 2-4 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 17.

Second Saturday Book Club...

On Saturday, Aug. 11, at 11 a.m., the Second Saturday Book Club will be discussing The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Timeby Mark Haddon at Boundary Waters on West Chicago Rd. in Sturgis, Mich. This book club is for ages 16 and older.

Hunter education class...

A hunter education class will be held from 3-8:30 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 6 and Tuesday, Aug. 7, at the LaGrange County Public Library. Registration is required by calling the reference desk at 260-463-2841 ext. 1030.

Hunter education is not just for kids and not just for hunters. This program is for all folks who enjoy the outdoors and have an interest in conversation. Taking a hunting class will allow participants to comply with the Indiana hunter education law and will also make someone a safer and more knowledgeable hunter. The class can also be an excellent refresher for veteran hunters.

The class is free and open to all ages, but children under age 12 must be accompanied by an adult. Participants should bring a packed meal to eat during the supper break.

Henna body art...

On Saturday, Aug. 18, at 2 p.m., meet one of the library’s favorite presenters, henna artist Jen Schafer, and learn about the culture, history, and science of henna. Participants will receive a free henna design and practice applying henna on paper.

Anyone under age 18 planning to come alone needs to register in person with a parent or guardian so they can sign a waiver. Children under age 5 should not use henna.

Registration is required by Aug. 10 at the reference desk or by calling 260-463-2841 ext. 1030.
