Knit a dog…

What could be cozier than sitting by the fireplace, knitting your own best friend? On Saturday, Feb. 25, stop by the LaGrange County Public Library for an adorable, breed-specific pattern of your choice (one per person please). Then bring your own materials on the last Saturday of the month, January to March, to knit and chat from 3-4 p.m.

Anyone can attend even if they want to knit something other than a dog.

Novel destinations…

Come pick up a Reading Passport at any branch of the library from Jan. 3 through March 3. Next, read one book from each of the destinations listed and record each book in the passport. When the passport is complete, you’ll win an international tea and chocolate sampler.

In addition to prizes, participants will be entered in a drawing for one of three grand prizes: a set of luggage from the Shipshe General Store, a large pizza from Chicago Joe’s, or one of two $10 gift certificates from Rising Star Sari-Sari International Market.

Second Saturday Book Club…

The Second Saturday Book Club will meet at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 11.

This month’s book is Great Expectations by Charles Dickens. An absorbing mystery as well as a morality tale, the story of Pip, a poor village lad, and his expectations of wealth is Dickens at his most readable.

Sci-Fi Book Club…

The LaGrange County Sci-Fi Book Club will meet at 6 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 6, to discuss Storm Front by Jim Butcher.

Harry Dresden is the best at what he does. Well, technically, he’s the only at what he does. So when Chicago P.D. has a case that transcends mortal creativity or capability, they come to him for answers. For the “everyday” world is actually full of strange and magical things – and most of them don’t play too well with humans.

This book club will be led by local patron Jerry Porter.
