LHS Baseball Team escorts seniors to TinCaps Ballgame

Several members of the Lakeland High School Baseball team spent a recent afternoon with a group of seniors from Avalon Village, who they escorted to a Ft. Wayne TinCaps baseball game at Parkview Field in Ft. Wayne.

Although the TinCaps lost to the South Bend Silver Hawks 16-2, Avalon Village residents and Lakeland students enjoyed the day. “They all really had a great time,” said Kayla A. Busche, director of admissions and marketing at Avalon Village, which is located in Ligonier.

Students made trips to the concession stands for the seniors and helped with transportation of some of the residents who were in wheelchairs. The support the students gave helped the seniors enjoy the day.

“The weather got a little windy and cold, but they didn’t want to leave. They just enjoyed being out interacting with the public,” Busche said.

Avalon Village is one of 65 Senior Health and Memory Care communities operated by American Senior Communities. For more information, call 260-894-7131 or visit the website at www.ASCSeniorCare.com/avlv.
