Fort Wayne Luers downed Lakeland by scores of 8-7 and 13-3 in varsity baseball this past Saturday in the Summit City.
The visiting Lakers grabbed a 7-5 lead with a two-spot in the top of the fourth inning. But in the bottom of the same frame, Luers pushed across three runs to take the advantage. Lakeland did not score after that.
Dalton Schmidt each doubled and singled for the Lakers with Schmidt plating two runs with his safeties. William Kelly poked an RBI single.
Alex Pearson suffered the pitching loss. Pearson allowed nine hits, struckout one and walked three in six innings.
The Knights broke the nightcap open with a six-run second inning. They tacked on two runs in the fourth and three more in the fifth.
Byler had two of the three Lakeland hits in the closer. Joe Ferguson had the other. Schmidt collected the only Laker RBI.
Dylan Pranger started on the mound for Lakeland and took the loss. Jalen Priestley and Kyle Casper also pitched.
