Letter To The Editor - Housing Ordinance

Dave Hughes

To the Editor:

First, thank you to the Lagrange News for the article entitled "Grant request requires new housing ordinance" in the March 21, 2014 paper. A main reason I take the paper is so that proposed changes in the community do not slip through unnoticed.

I am opposed to any change in the definition of family, as requested recently by a Region III-A Economic Development official.

I hope this doesn't affect the fire department, or any other government entity's ability to apply for a grant. I'm sure a lot of work has gone into the process and it would be a shame to see it wasted.

But money often comes with strings, which is one reason it makes little sense to send the money to Washington, D.C. so they can give our money back to us (aren't we fortunate), minus their expenses, with strings attached to entice us to do business their way. It's a rather devious attempt to get us to accept their values with the promise of returning our money as part of the deal.

I trust Howe will get a different truck in time. In the process I hope we won't sell our definition of marriage for 30 pieces of silver, or a few thousand dollars.

Thanks for your service.
