Reason 4 Hope

To the Editor:

Last December, Reason 4 Hope spent a weekend in Indianapolis with “HOPE on the Streets” – serving women and children at Wheeler Ministries, and then literally, hitting the streets to hand out necessities to those still living there. While there we realized that this is where God wants us; He wants us showing unconditional love to those that perhaps get forgotten. He wants us sharing His love with others through service and His Word.

We have decided to focus our efforts locally and follow what God says in His Word. The time has come for us to take a stand. We are called to defend the rights of the poor, the orphans, the widows. We have women, children hurting among us victims of domestic abuse. We are called to be their voices. (Isaiah 1:17 “Learn to do good. Seek justice. Help the oppressed. Defend the cause of orphans. Fight for the rights of widows.” 1 John 3:18 “Dear children, let’s not merely say we love each other, let us show the truth by our actions.”) We are called to reach out and heal the broken hearted. Won’t you join us?

Elijah Haven Crisis Intervention Center in LaGrange has a mission to provide a safe, healing, nurturing environment for individuals affected by domestic violence. We are committed to offering services that promote peace and no violence in the home. Elijah Haven offers a 24-hour crisis line, an emergency residential home, crisis counseling and support groups, domestic violence education and prevention, legal, financial and social services advocacy, parent resources, teen outreach and community education.

Reason 4 Hope was recently asked to start a Bible study with some of the ladies who are being helped by Elijah Haven. In just eight weeks, it is incredible the changes we have seen in these women, as well as ourselves. Seeing how much change, so much hope is being infused into their lives through the Word of God has inspired us to help all of the people that come through the doors of Elijah Haven.

Our goal is to provide each woman that comes through the doors of Elijah Haven Crisis Intervention Center with a “Tote of HOPE.” That tote will be filled with information, needed hygiene products, the means to prepare themselves for interviews, toys for their children and HOPE found in Christ.
