LaGrange de Lafayette Chapter
Daughters of the American Revolution
To the Editor:
The LaGrange de Lafayette Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution would like to thank those who made possible the bicentennial celebration of our National Anthem on the courthouse green last Saturday: LaGrange Community Band, directed by Hank Gore; American Legion Post 215 Color Guard, Jack Miller and Larry Slabach; Boy Scout Troop 3764 Color Guard, Matt Keller, Scoutmaster; and Richard Muntz, Francis Scott Key impersonator.
The significance of the War of 1812 in our nation's history is lost in the much longer, costlier conflicts of later years. This “Second American Revolution” followed the first by 27 years, fought the same world military power, and was again won by sheer determination and divine intervention.
It is with humble and grateful hearts that we remember the courage and sacrifices of those who founded our nation and those who continue to carry on freedom's fight today.
