Council on Aging
To the Editor:
Without generous donations from people from the community we would not be able to continue to do what we do! We raised almost $7,000 to help with our programs.
We now have a budget of over $650,000 and without doing fundraising we could not continue to serve the residents of LaGrange County.
In 2012 we provided 45,506 trips on the LCAT service. This is public transportation for LaGrange County residents. We provide transportation for seniors for free within the county for any reason. We provide transportation to those under age 60 for a fee. We provide transportation to veterans for free regardless of age.
We have a home assistant program that provides assistance to seniors to keep them safe and in their homes for as long as possible. We have activities that we do at the Council on Aging, including: wheelchair ramp project, bingo, Wii bowling, free luncheons, free tax service to low income seniors, movie day, stroke support, Alzheimer’s support, foot care, blood pressure and glucose checks, Bible study, euchre club, painting class, exercise class, healthy living and diabetic classes.
We do receive some funding from state and local governmental agencies for our services, but we do not receive enough to cover all the expenses. We have to raise approximately $150,000 from grants and local fundraising to continue doing what we do.
