To the Editor:

Our Fifth Annual Ark Dinner and Auction is now history. It is hard to know where to start thanking people when so many have helped.

Ryan Riegsecker of Riegsecker Marketplace provided a wonderful dinner and some great gifts. Mike Strawser and his family handled the live auction with their usual professionalism and the evening would not have been nearly as successful without the donation of the golf cart by Bartt and Jami Nettleson of Green Valley Campground. The many gifts donated for the live and silent auctions were greatly appreciated and we sincerely thank everyone who helped us out. Needless to say, nothing could have been accomplished without all the faithful who continue to support us by buying tickets. We thank you and the animals thank you!

To run Ark Animal Sanctuary as efficiently as possible, to make sure animals receive the medical care they need, including spay and neuter, heartworm testing and treatment, feline leukemia testing and various other procedures, and to get them into forever homes costs considerably more than we receive from the county. We can only continue to function if we have the help of the community through participation in our fundraisers and through individual donations. We are a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, so your donations may be deducted from your taxes. Our address is P.O. Box 95, Howe, IN 46746.

Our Ark Paws and Claws Bookstore in Howe continues to be a source of income which helps with medical expenses. As you probably know, all books, puzzles, etc., are donated and all are sold on a donation basis. The store is open Monday through Saturday, 10-5 weekdays and 9:30-3 on Saturdays.

On Wednesday afternoons, the Pet Food Pantry is open from 2-4 p.m. at the bookstore for LaGrange County people needing help with food to keep their animals at home. Applications need to be filled out and approved. The Ark Paws and Claws Bookstore is located on the north side of the square in Howe.

On Oct. 20, there will be an Open House at the Ark Animal Sanctuary from 1-4 p.m. The sanctuary is located at 0530E 300S in LaGrange. Come out and see the changes that have been made and visit with animals needing a forever home.

Ark’s continuing dream is to have our own, more visible facility where old animals and those who are hard to adopt can live out their lives in a more comfortable, home-like place. If you have property you would like to donate, contact me at margaret malone@embarqmail.com or any Ark Board members – Susan Acree, Barb Frymier, Carrie Garmire, Gina Healey, Vera Hypes, Sue Keenan, Jim Kelly, Laney Kratz, Tammy Scalzo, Brian Cochran, Sandra Cochran or Sue Schlemmer.

If you would like to volunteer at either the bookstore or the sanctuary, go to our website, www.arkanimalrescue.weebly. com and fill out an application.
