Leo Heitger

Leo F. Heitger, 75, Bronson, Mich., died Thursday, May 30, 2013 at his residence.

     He was born January 20, 1938, in Sturgis, Mich., to Floyd W. “Pete” and Eileen M. (Dunkel) Heitger.

     Living in Howe for 35 years before moving to Bronson, Mich., his early life was spent in Sturgis, Mich., where he was a 1956 graduate of Sturgis High School. He retired in 2000 from Cast Metal Industries in White Pigeon, Mich., following eight years of employment. Before joining CMI he worked for Harter Corporation in Sturgis, Mich., for 31 years until the business closed. He was crowned the National Rifle Association Junior Rifle Champion in 1955-1956. He attended Celebrate One Church in Sturgis, Mich.

     He was married July 5, 1958, in LaGrange, to Diane E. Johnson. She survives.

    Also surviving are one daughter, Anne (Ralph) Milliman, Sturgis, Mich.; two sons, Kevin (Laura) Heitger, Manton, James (Adrienne) Heitger, Bronson, Mich.; three extended sons, Tracy (Sheila) Webb, Sturgis, Mich., Toby (Jill) Baker, Wolcottville, and Rick (Vickie) Walters, Howe; nine grandchildren, Michael (Jessica) Mobley, Jackie Heitger, Jennifer Heitger, Alex (Jallissa) Flintoff, Angela (Jeff) Jennings, Shane Milliman, Lukas Heitger, Joshua Heitger and Hannah Heitger; seven great-grandchildren, Adam, Charlie, Jojo, Jaden, Jakeb, Abby and Elijah; one brother, Richard (Cheryl) Heitger, Bronson, Mich.; his mother-in-law, Ruth Johnson, Bronson, Mich.; a sister-in-law, Joy Heitger, Sturgis, Mich.; a brother-in-law, Joseph (Joan) Fisher, Bronson, Mich.; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

     He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Robert Heitger, one sister, Betty Rice, and a sister-in-law, Janice Fisher.

     Visitation is 5-6:45 p.m. Tuesday, June 4, at Grace Christian Fellowship Church in Sturgis, Mich. 

    Memorial service will be 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 4, at Grace Christian Fellowship Church in Sturgis, Mich., with Pastor Jerry Solis officiating. 

    Private burial will take place at a later date.
