The LaGrange County Community Foundation (LCCF) Board of Directors recently approved a grant of $15,000 to the LaGrange County Promise. The promise states that LaGrange County will support youth in the development of their college and career identity through college and career discovery, academic readiness and educational savings. A goal of the initiative is to shape the career and college identity of students in their early years while partnering with area schools to prepare students to become lifelong learners and productive adults.
Any LaGrange County student in grades K-3 who attend Lakeland, Prairie Heights or Westview school systems and establishes a CollegeChoice529 by August 31 is eligible for a community matching gift.
Students will be required to establish a CollegeChoice529 account, participate in age-appropriate college and career discovery activities in the classroom, invite “champions” to provide encouragement and make an investment in their personal CollegeChoice529 account, and participate in a “Walk Into My Future” event on a local college campus. Students will receive a $25 investment from Parkview Health and those who raise $25 or more through their “champions” will receive a community matching gift.
The grant of $15,000 from the community foundation supports the local fundraising efforts for the community match portion of the LaGrange County Promise.
LCCF encourages community members to invest in the lives of the future leaders of our community by becoming “champions.” This county-wide initiative not only gives hope to many students but allows them to take ownership in their future. Supporting education, investing in youth and providing hope are all aspects of the community foundation mission to inspire and sustain generosity, leadership and service.
