Westview won its first Land of Lakes Conference middle school boys cross country championship in 17 years last Thursday night at West Noble.
Led by individual runner-up Roman Miller (10:24) and third-place finisher Matthew Yoder (10:36), the Warriors came in with a team score of 29 points, half of the total garnered by the second-place squad, West Noble (58). Fairfield was third with 63.
The remaining five Westview runners finished in slots 8-12, earning each all-conference honors along with Miller and Yoder. That Warrior pack included Kolten Lewton (10:59), Benjamin Miller (11:01), Richmond Stoltzfus (11:03), Coby Knowles (11:05) and Derek Miller (11:25).
Landon Miller of Fairfield was the boys individual medalist with a time of 10:17.
Kaleb Wadsworth paced Lakeland in the boys meet. Wadsworth placed 18th overall in a clocking of 11:52.
Josh Davenport was the first Prairie Heights runner to complete the boys race, taking 26th position in 12:22. Leading The Howe School with a 29th-place result in 12:38 was Lahwig Nailor.
Michaella Burchett of Lakeland ran to a second-place finish in last Thursday’s Land of Lakes Conference middle school girls cross country meet held at West Noble.
Burchett completed the race in a time of 12:50, five seconds faster than Delaney Hochstetler (12:55) of Fairfield, who placed third. Winning the event with a clocking of 12:29 was Calyn Howell of Fairfield.
Lydia Rang and Alyssa Miller of Westview finished seventh and eighth, respectively in times of 13:05 and 13:11. Teammates Olivia Hibbs and Taylor Trittipo also gained all-conference honors, as Hibbs placed 15th in 13:44 and Trittipo 19th in 13:57.
Two other LaGrange County girls finished in the top 20 to wind up on the All-LLC list. Katie Cooper of Prairie Heights was 18th in a time of 13:56 and Noelle Davenport of Lakeland was 20th in 14:01.
West Noble won its 17th consecutive girls team championship with a score of 36 points. Fairfield was second with 43 and Westview third with 70.
