Laker Softballers edge Panthers

The Lakeland and Prairie Heights softball squads braved the cold and wind Tuesday afternoon in a hotly contested battle for their NECC opener.

The Lakers were able to edge out the Panthers 5-4, thanks to a strong opening two innings.

The Lakers went 4-0 over the Panthers with a run in the first and three runs in the second inning. Ashlynn Grubb earned an RBI in the first, with Carolyn Hershberger knocking in two with a double in the second.

The Panthers worked hard to come back, scoring two runs in the third inning, and one run in both the fourth and fifth innings.

But the Lakers were able to score a single run in the third, which proved to be all the difference as they held on for the win.

Pitcher Ashlynn Grubb got the win for the afternoon.
