Lakeland defeated host Angola, 6-4 in an NECC girls soccer match played Wednesday night.
Joy Sustaita netted two goals and both Elexus Holmes and Rebecca Levitz booted home one marker in the first half to help the Lady Lakers build a 4-2 advantage. Levitz’s goal came on a penalty kick and broke up a 2-2 deadlock.
Levitz had a hand in both Lakeland tallies in the second half which sealed the Lady Lakers’ third victory of the season. Levitz earned an assist on a goal by Scarlett Albor, then converted a pass from Sustaita into a score.
“I was pleased with how my team played,” stated Lakeland head coach Megan Hamilton. “We’ve been working hard on passing and placement drills and it’s finally starting to pay off. The girls are really starting to come together.”
Mikaela Freeman, Riley Peppler, Kylie Bidlack and Brook Ice netted the Angola goals. Bidlack also garnered assists on the Freeman and Peppler markers.
Lakeland keeper Jessica Hoover was credited with making three saves in the win. Angola netminders Amanda Fager and Jericho Van Allen combined to stop 16 Lady Laker shots.
