Laker girls defeat Hamilton

Lakeland rallied to defeat Hamilton, 43-35 in NECC girls basketball action Saturday evening in Hamilton.

The hosts used a 10-3 spurt in the second quarter to build a six-point (19-13) halftime cushion over the Lady Lakers. Lindsay Upp, who wound up topping the Hamilton scoresheet with 13 points, nailed a three-point basket to cap off the surge.

Hamilton kept the lead until late in the third quarter when buckets by Morgan Meyers and Abi Thompson knotted the count at 27-all. Thompson then swished a pair of free throws with 5:36 left in the fourth period to give Lakeland a 31-29 edge, its first lead since the opening stanza.

A deuce by Becca Levitz and a timely triple from reserve Amanda Miller boosted the Lady Laker advantage to six (36-30). Thompson sealed the win and a 15-point night with four free throws and a basket down the stretch.

Ashtin Kaminer backed up Thompson on the Lakeland point column with nine markers, made six steals and grabbed five rebounds. Levitz totaled eight points and five boards.

Lindsey Stoy chipped in 12 points and three steals to the Hamilton effort. Sanne Van Roessel hauled down nine rebounds.

The triumph lifted the Lady Lakers to 3-6 in the NECC and to 4-13 overall.
