Laker Boys bow to Northwood

 

Lakeland gave host NorthWood a battle for three quarters before dropping a 62-49 decision to the Panthers in non-conference boys basketball action Tuesday.

After falling behind, 18-13 after one period, the Lakers used a 12-8 run in the second quarter to pull within one (26-25) at halftime. A 15-12 scoring difference in favor of NorthWood in the third frame left the hosts clinging to a 40-36 advantage.

But in the final stanza, the Panthers flexed their muscle, out scoring Lakeland, 21-12 to pull away for their fifth win in 12 decisions.

Jakyah Qaiyim led a quartet of NorthWood players in double figures with 18 points. Zach Zurcher sank 16 tallies, Braxton Miller canned four, three-point shots for 12 markers and Jonathon Wilkinson finished with 11.

Cody Richardson and Spencer Mortola each knocked down 16 points to pace the 4-8 Lakers. Richardson netted a dozen of his points on four, three-point baskets.
