Lakeland zips past Elkhart Christian in boys soccer

 

Lakeland zipped past Elkhart Christian, 6-1 in varsity boys soccer action Saturday afternoon in LaGrange.

Alfredo Nieves, Carlos Albor and Logan Lawrence put shots into the net in the first half, staking the hosts to a 3-0 lead. Dustin Cunningham earned assists on both the Albor and Lawrence goals, while Nick Byler also garnered a helper on the Albor tally.

Scoring in the second half for Lakeland were Byler, Sammy Garcia and Albor. Cunningham netted his third assist on the Byler gem. Daniel Nieves set up Albor’s second marker.

Luis Gutierrez started in goal for the Lakers and registered two saves in 71 minutes. Skyler Booth took over the keeper duties in the final nine minutes, making one stop.

The triumph lifted Lakeland to an overall record of 10-5.
