Lakeland welcoming 20 new teachers for 2012-2013

The Lakeland School Board approved the hiring of five new teachers who will be starting next week, bringing the total number of new teachers in the district to 20 for the upcoming school year.

The board approved hiring Nicole Dubois and Joy Ross as Lakeland High School English teachers; Cheryl Berry as a Lakeland Middle School math teacher; Kevin Caro as a Lakeland Middle School English teacher; and Chris Sigmon as a vocation/technical/ag teacher at Lakeland Middle School.

Lakeland Superintendent Risa Herber noted that having 20 new teachers starting in K-12 is about double the normal number of new teachers for a school year.

The district had 12 teacher retirements at the end of the last school year, and others have moved out of the district due to changes in their lives, Herber stated.

The board approved advertising the 2013 district budget, which is in today’s LaGrange News.

The board will have a public hearing on the advertised budget on Sept. 10.
