Lakeland upends Bethany Christian

Lakeland used a big second-half effort to pull away from host Bethany Christian, 57-40 in varsity boys basketball Saturday night in Goshen.

Tied at 19-all with the Bruins after two quarters, the Lakers went on a 21-8 tear in the third period to seize a 40-27 lead. The visitors then sealed their second win of the season with a 17-13 scoring edge in the final frame.

Jalen King sank six field goals and all seven of his free throws to finished atop the Lakeland scoresheet with 20 points. Spencer Mortola and Cody Richardson, both of whom drained a couple of three-point shots, wound up with 15 and 10 markers, respectively.

Marco Olivares nabbed 11 of the 29 Laker rebounds in the tilt. King tacked on seven assists and four steals to his ledger.

David DeLeeuw was high-point man for Bethany with 16.
