Lakeland held off Central Noble, 7-5 in NECC softball play last Thursday night in LaGrange.
Lexie Myers’ two-out, two-run double triggered a five-run outburst by the Lady Lakers in the third inning. A Central Noble error and singles by Morgan Meyers and Hannah Myers plated the other three runs in the frame.
The Lady Cougars got four of the runs back in the fifth, three coming in a home run by Darby Roe. Lakeland scored twice in the sixth on a triple by Ashlynn Grubb and a throwing error. Central Noble scored once in the seventh, but could draw any closer.
Grubb, Lexie Myers, Meyers and Karissa Troyer all had two hits for the Lady Lakers, who improved to 5-2 in the NECC with the win. Roe had two hits for Central Noble.
Grubb got the pitching win, allowing four hits, striking out 14 and walking one.
