Lakeland softball results

 

Lakelandwent 1-2 in a trio of non-conference softball games over the weekend, bringing its season record to 12-9.

Last Friday in LaGrange, Jill Mingus knocked in four runs with a double and a single as the Lady Lakers drubbed Bethany Christian, 11-0. Ashlynn Grubb and Hannah Myers each contributed two hits and two RBI to the Lakeland ledger. Morgan Meyers had one hit and scored three times.

Grubb started in the pitcher’s circle and went three innings to get the win, giving up two hits, striking out six and walking one. Holly Eaton worked the final two innings, fanning three and walking one.

Concordvisited Lakeland Saturday for a doubleheader. The Lady Minutemen scored twice in the top of the seventh to seize a 4-2 victory in the opener.

Pitcher Jenny Miller, who doubled in the decisive inning, held the Lady Lakers scoreless in the bottom of the seventh to nail down the Concord win. Miller scattered five hits, walked two and struckout seven.

Grubb, who took the loss, led Lakeland at the plate with three hits, two of which went for doubles. Karissa Troyer lined an RBI single.

In the second game, Concord again broke a tie game with two runs in the seventh, then held off a Lady Laker rally in the bottom of the frame to pull off the sweep, 6-5.

Grubb doubled to start the Lady Laker seventh, giving her six hits for the twin-bill. After a Lexie Myers single took Grubb to third, Mingus lofted a sacrifice fly to score Grubb and cut the difference to one.

But with pinch-runner Cedi Bowers standing on third base representing the tying run, Concord pitcher RaeAnn Miller induced a ground ball for the final out.

Kennadie Lopez collected two hits and two RBI for the 12-7 Lady Minutemen. RaeAnn Miller also had two hits, while Jenny Miller, Kylie Ehret and Jenna Thompson all delivered RBI safeties.

Meyers produced a pair of Lakeland runs with a single. Lexie Myers finished with two hits.

RaeAnn Miller allowed nine hits, whiffed four and walked two in notching the win. Eaton pitched the first six innings and took the loss. She gave up five hits, fanned three and walked two.
