Lakeland Invitational track results

Lakeland cruised to its own boys track invitational championship last Friday night in LaGrange.

Led by double-winner Evan Garretson, the Lakers piled up 201 points in the 48th annual event. Next best with 128 markers was Angola. Prairie Heights finished with 105.

Garretson, who two days earlier in an NECC meet against Churubusco had set the school record in the shot put with a heave of 57-5 feet, established a new Lakeland Invitational mark in the same event Friday with a winning toss of 55-8.75. The effort broke the previous standard of 55-6.25 set in 1994 by Westview’s Kevin Archer.

Earlier in the meet, Garretson dominated the discus, winning the blue ribbon with a distance of 150-11 feet.

Taylor Raatz, Tanner Raatz, Dereck Drake and Nick Byler also won individual invitational titles for the Lakers. Taylor Raatz took first in the 300-meter hurdles (41.02), Tanner Raatz in the high jump (5-6), Drake in the 400 meters (54.28) and Byler in the 800 meters (2:02.70).

Two Lakeland relay teams claimed top honors in their races. Daniel Nieves, Byler, Mishael Theis and Joseph Trost won the 3200-meter relay (9:18.20). Dustin Cunningham, Joel Miller, Taylor Raatz and Eli Wallace combined to triumph in the 400-meter relay (44.30).

Mitch Perkins accounted for two of the four Prairie Heights blue ribbons in the meet. Perkins out ran the field in both the 1600 meters (4:39.40) and 3200 meters (10:29.90).

Zach Shepard and Landis Clark garnered the other two Panther firsts. Shepard sailed to the pole vault crown (14-9) and Clark won the long jump (18-1).
