Friday night’s Lakeland High School varsity football game will be more than just a matchup against the Lakers and the Eastside Blazers as the school will be hosting area veterans for a pre-game dinner and recognition of their service during a special halftime presentation.
The event is being organized by LHS senior Skyler Booth as a way to honor and recognize the service to the United States by veterans of the five branches of the armed forces.
Veterans attending will be treated to dinner at 6 p.m. at the school. A halftime ceremony is planned for the veterans, who will have free admission to the game.
Along with the ceremony, the Laker squad will be donning special camouflage jerseys for the game.
Booth is a member of the Laker’s 2013 team and plans to serve in the armed forces after college.
Veterans who would like to participate in the event should contact the LHS front office at 499-2470. Veterans are asked to bring at least one item showing service, such as a VFW or American Legion card and/or military ID. Attire is optional and veterans may wear a cap or service cover, military uniforms, medals, or other military-related clothing.
