Lakeland won its first-ever softball decision over 4A powerhouse Mishawaka, 3-0 last Thursday night in the Princess City.
Jill Mingus doubled home Madison Campbell with the first Lady Laker run in the third inning. Lakeland tacked on two more markers in the fourth on RBI singles by Kizzie Trinh and Campbell. Ashton Miller doubled in front of Trinh’s liner then came around on Campbell’s blast.
Ashlynn Grubb gave up five hits and struckout 14 en route to the pitching win. Mishawaka’s best chance to score came in the sixth when it placed runners on the corners with one out. However, shortstop Morgan Meyers stabbed a line drive then threw to Karissa Troyer at first for an inning-ending double play.
