Lakeland footballers down Fremont

Lakeland rolled to its second win of the young football season last Friday night at Fremont, 46-13.

William Kelly’s 47-yard touchdown strike to Taylor Raatz 12 seconds into the contest got the Laker express off and running. Before the initial stanza was complete, Cory Troyer had found paydirt from 10 yards out and Raatz returned a punt 43 yards for a score, helping push the Lakeland advantage to 20-0.

Jordan Aldrich passed 19 yards to Logan Owens for a score early in the second period to extend the gap to 26-0. Aldrich would then scamper nine yards for a touchdown midway through the third frame to give the Lakers a 32-0 lead.

Fremont finally got on the scoreboard with 10 seconds left in the third quarter on a 31-yard pass from Chandler McDowell to Nate Beatty. Lakeland countered by scoring twice in the fourth quarter on runs of 19 yards by Troyer and of 11 yards by Thomas Roebel.

Troyer carried 14 times for 95 yards to pace the Laker ground attack. Joey Fuller gained 60 yards on 11 totes and Raatz netted 51 on five attempts.

Kelly and Aldrich combined to complete six passes for 103 yards. T.J. Thompson had two receptions.

Topping the Laker defense with 5.5 tackles was Troyer. Owens and Nick Attkisson each made four stops.

Lakeland hosts Central Noble this Friday.
