Lakeland fills positions as new school year nears

The Lakeland School Board approved several teacher positions at Monday’s meeting, just over a week before classes are due to start in the district.

The board hired Anthony Troyer as Spanish teacher at Lakeland High School.

Jamie Ibbotson was hired as a special education teacher at Lakeland Middle School.

Also hired for the middle school was Sarah Comerford as English/social studies teacher.

The board approved a request to publish the numbers for Lakeland’s eligibility for enrollment of students who do not live within the district. The board was told that the school has the following openings per grade level:

Kindergarten – 12; First Grade – 9; Second Grade – 7; Third Grade – 3; Fourth Grade – 5; Fifth Grade – 13; Sixth Grade – 10; Seventh Grade – 10; Eighth Grade – 10; Ninth Grade – 10; Tenth Grade – 10; Eleventh Grade – 15; Twelfth Grade – 5.

It was noted that the distribution is per grade and does not mean an equal number of openings per building in the elementary schools. The numbers are based on current staffing levels.

The board approved a request to advertise the 2014 district budget.
