The Lakeland varsity boys basketball team scored its first victory of the season Saturday night in LaGrange by a count of 41-36 over Bethany Christian.
Leading by a 17-16 margin at halftime, the Lakers reeled off a 12-4 spurt in the third quarter to take a 29-20 advantage. The visiting Bruins out scored Lakeland, 16-12 in the final stanza, but it wasn’t enough to catch the Lakers.
Spencer Mortola paced the winning ledger with 15 points, nine of those coming on a trio of three-point buckets. Chandler Mynhier added 10.
Caleb Morris and Sol Brenneman topped the Bethany scoresheet with 15 and 14 tallies, respectively.
